  • Overview

    The position of Temp Petroleum Technician is located at the Hawthorne Army Depot, near the modest, west central Nevada, “High-desert, mountain-side”, community of Hawthorne. Hawthorne Army Depot, known as “The Largest ammunition storage facility in the world,” is centrally located near the modest community of Hawthorne, Nevada, at the base of 11,000 ft. Mt. Grant and at the south end of large and historical Walker Lake on Highway 95. We are located within a comfortable 1 to 2 hour drive of numerous communities and cities in Northern Nevada and Northern California.     This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement.

    Responsibilities

    • Receive, issue, and inventory petroleum products for all plant operating and heating equipment, including gasoline, diesel fuel, and propane. Follow Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of Hazardous Materials.
    • Operate mobile refueling equipment in the dispensing of fuels to equipment or into storage tanks. Plan and perform difficult work where only general operation methods, instructions, or standards are available. Work requires the use of considerable ingenuity, initiative, and judgment.
    • Develop and maintain inventory records for the principal fuel storage tanks located throughout the facility. Initiate replenishment action when petroleum products reach the minimum level established. Maintain a record of all recipients of issued fuels by vehicle, work center, name, and quantity.
    • Verify inventory by recording meter reading or by gauging tanks with the appropriate measuring device. Compare reading from meters and gauging instruments with log sheets to verify amount of POL dispensed. Adjust record as required and submit the necessary reports for appropriate relief from product shortage liability.
    • Complete the required documents upon delivery of petroleum. Take the necessary sample and perform other tests associated with quality control program requirements. Report to Manager any major loss of petroleum products for investigation, repair, and reporting as necessary.
    • Upholds company values (Safety, Diversity, Integrity and Success). Performs other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned. May be assigned occasional duties of a higher level of difficulty than those listed above. Maintains high ethical standards, overall values of the business, and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct to include cooperating during Company investigation.

    Qualifications

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Eighteen (18) months direct experience in the function. Applicant must have a thorough knowledge of safety regulations in working with petroleum products. Must have good math skills
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications as required by SOC's Master Training Plan
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B, CDL drivers’ license with Hazardous Materials and tanker endorsements. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. 
    • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner. Perform safety sensitive duties.
