  • Overview

    The position of Laborer is located at the Hawthorne Army Depot, near the modest, west central Nevada, “High-desert, mountain-side”, community of Hawthorne. Hawthorne Army Depot, known as “The Largest ammunition storage facility in the world,” is centrally located near the modest community of Hawthorne, Nevada, at the base of 11,000 ft. Mt. Grant and at the south end of large and historical Walker Lake on Highway 95. We are located within a comfortable 1 to 2 hour drive of numerous communities and cities in Northern Nevada and Northern California.     This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement.


    • Operates a power lawn mower, jack hammer and power tools. May operate garden tractors with attachments under the guidance of a journeyman, leader, or Foreman. May operate chain saws, trimmers, edgers, sweepers, rototillers, and power scythes. Adjusts mechanisms. Oils and cleans equipment. Effectively troubleshoot, replace, and repair irrigation system and components.
    • Assists skilled trades or craftsmen by retrieving tools, materials, and equipment. Holds, moves, rearranges, lifts, carries, and/or stacks items and objects. Cleans tools, equipment, and work areas. Digs and grades ditches and trenches with pick and shovel. Fills and levels holes in damaged roadways. Mixes materials and level patch surfaces with tamper. Sets forms. Mixes and pours concrete.
    • Loads and unload trucks, and other conveyances. Moves, packs, unpacks, sorts, segregates, arranges, stacks, piles, or relocates a large variety of supply items. Applies salt or other ice control material to entrances of buildings. Shovels snow from steps and walks in the immediate vicinity of assigned buildings. Picks up litter from immediate area outside buildings. Mows and waters lawn within a specified distance of assigned buildings.
    • Assists with janitorial duties such as sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors using heavy industrial powered equipment. Vacuum rugs and drapes. Washes walls. Changes buffers, brushes, rollers, and other attachments. Adjusts and oil equipment. Washes and replaces Venetian blinds, ceiling fixtures, and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Removes stains from rugs, drapes, walls, floors, and fixtures by use of chemicals and cleaning solutions. Washes and cleans windows inside and outside of buildings using step ladders, extension ladders, safety belts, and scaffolds using brushes, buckets, squeegees, chamois, cleaning cloths and cleaning solutions.
    • Builds, moves and disassembles depot furniture using proper lifting techniques and lifting devices. Inspects and keeps safety belts in good condition. Maintains assigned warehouses and shop areas in a clean and orderly condition. Removes and properly dispose of oil, hydraulic fluid, and other spilled liquids. Moves boxes of varied weights, crates, disassembled equipment, parts, or other obstacles in order to clean up an assigned area. Picks up scraps of wood, metal, or other material. Removes scrap and trash cans from area to central pickup point. Performs other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned and may be assigned occasional duties of a higher level of difficulty.

May be assigned occasional duties of a higher level of difficulty than those listed above. Maintain high ethical standards, overall values of the business, and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct to include cooperating during Company investigations; Responsible for reporting potential real environmental concerns to the Environmental Service.


    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
    • Six (6) Months of direct grounds or landscaping experience, preferred but not required.
    • Must be able to obtain an maintain all company required training as outlined in SOC's Master Training Plan.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada drivers license. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
    • Must be able to perform work duties, routinely, in a safe and effective manner, remaining alert and aware of potential work/safety hazards at all time, and especially alert while performing safety sensitive duties.
