    The position of Fire Captain, with SOC LLC, A Day and Zimmermann Company, is located at the Hawthorne Army Depot, near the modest, west central Nevada, “High-desert, mountain-side”, community of Hawthorne.     Hawthorne Army Depot, known as “The Largest ammunition storage facility in the world,” is centrally located near the modest community of Hawthorne, Nevada, at the base of 11,000 ft. Mt. Grant and at the south end of large and historical Walker Lake on Highway 95. We are located within a comfortable 1 to 2 hour drive of numerous communities and cities, located in Northern Nevada and Northern California, including South Lake Tahoe, Reno/Sparks, Carson City, Fernley and Sparks, all of which offer abundant opportunities and access to high quality shopping, recreation, health care, education and entertainment.

    HWAD, is also located near the East Gate to Yosemite National Park, Mammoth Lakes, Heavenly and Mt. Rose ski resorts, and a comfortable 4 -5 hour drive North West of Las Vegas , NV. For our outdoor enthusiasts, there are abundant opportunities nearby for hiking, biking, fishing, camping, ATV/UTV and other sports.

    • Works with the Assistant Chief to plan and develop policies and establish goals for the Platoon. Primarily responsible for the supervision of one Fire Station and its assigned apparatus.
    • Ensures that all firefighting, hazmat, and rescue equipment is tested, repaired, inspected, and maintained. Ensures the inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance of all hydrants, fire alarm boxes, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, as assigned. Inspects depot facilities, in coordination with the fire Inspector.
    • Instructs all phases of emergency response, such as fire fighting, hazmat response, confined space rescue, etc.; Fire Prevention procedures to be used during company building inspections.
    • Responds to all emergencies on the Depot with assigned engine company. When first to arrive, shall assume command until relieved by a senior Fire Officer. Act as the Fire Department Entry Team Officer at all emergencies.
    • Assumes duties of Assistant Fire Chief when assigned, including Fire Department operations, records management, and reports preparation. Make reccomendations for hiring and firing employees.
    • Responsible for reporting potential real environmental concerns to the Environmental Service.Maintains high ethical standards, overall values of the business, and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct to include cooperating during Company investigations; treat all individuals fairly and with respect. Perform other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned. May be assigned occasional duties of a higher level than those listed above. The duties of this classification may overlap duties performed by employees of other classifications. 


    EDUCATION:  High school graduate with State of Nevada Firefighter I and II certification. Technical Fire Protection/Prevention training highly desirable.


    EXPERIENCE:  Two (2) years experience as a Firefighter with broad knowledge of Fire Protection/Prevention. A good working knowledge of the care, operation, and maintenance of all fire equipment is essential. A thorough knowledge of the Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD) layout is essential.


    CERTIFICATIONS:  Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications as required by SOC's Master Training Plan. Must have a valid National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification or State of Nevada EMT License.


    LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS:  Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada class C Drivers License with an "F" endorsement. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of Government security clearance as well as a clearance throught the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.


    OTHER: Must be able to perform work duties, routinely, in a safe and effective manner, remaining alert and aware of potential work/safety hazards at all time, and especially alert while performing safety sensitive duties.
