    The position of UXO Tech I , with SOC LLC, A Day and Zimmermann Company, is located at the Hawthorne Army Depot, near the modest, west central Nevada, “High-desert, mountain-side”, community of Hawthorne.     Hawthorne Army Depot, known as “The Largest ammunition storage facility in the world,” is centrally located near the modest community of Hawthorne, Nevada, at the base of 11,000 ft. Mt. Grant and at the south end of large and historical Walker Lake on Highway 95. We are located within a comfortable 1 to 2 hour drive of numerous communities and cities, located in Northern Nevada and Northern California, including South Lake Tahoe, Reno/Sparks, Carson City, Fernley and Sparks, all of which offer abundant opportunities and access to high quality shopping, recreation, health care, education and entertainment.

    HWAD, is also located near the East Gate to Yosemite National Park, Mammoth Lakes, Heavenly and Mt. Rose ski resorts, and a comfortable 4 -5 hour drive North West of Las Vegas , NV.     Responsibilities

    • Destroy ammunition, explosives, propellants, by burning or detonation.Required to compute the proper amount, spacing, location, and connection of demolition materials to properly assemble and initiate non-electronic and electronic firing systems/circuits. Must possess and maintain a high level of familiarity with the characteristics of common bulk explosives such as TNT, tetryl, composition B, and other explosives Complinace with all written standing operating procedures and safety instructions under designated operational supervision. Follows all Materials Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of Hazardous Materials. Recommends minor modifications to Supervisor for unusual conditions or problem areas.Assists in performing reconnaissance and classification of UXO identification of U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs and bomb fuses, projectiles and projectile fuses, grenades and grenade fuses, rockets and rocket fuses, land mines and associated components, pyrotechnic items, military explosives and demolition materials. Provides support as needed in the location of subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers. Assists in performing excavation procedures on buried UXO.Locates surface UXO using electrical firing. Assists in transporting and storing UXO and demolition materials and preparing non-electric firing system for a UXO disposal operation.
    • Complies with all written standard operating procedures and safety instructions under designated operational supervision. Follows all Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Recommends minor modifications to supervisor for unusual conditions or issues.. Insures adherence to the stadnards for safe, permissible quantities of explosives, personnel limits, handling and storage techniques in addition to other safety and disposal factors.
    • Responsible for reporting potential or known environmental concerns to the Environmental Service. Assists in the operation of a personnel decontamination station, wears appropriate personal protective equipment in contaminated areas at all times. Assists in the inspection of salvage UXO-related material and erection of UXO-related protective works.
    • Recommends minor modifications to Supervisor for unusual conditions or problem areas.Assists in performing reconnaissance and classification of UXO identification of U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs and bomb fuses, projectiles and projectile fuses, grenades and grenade fuses, rockets and rocket fuses, land mines and associated components, pyrotechnic items, military explosives and demolition materials. Provides support as needed in the location of subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers. Assists in performing excavation procedures on buried UXO. Locates surface UXO using electrical firing. Assists in transporting and storing UXO and demolition materials and preparing non-electric firing system for a UXO disposal operation.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION:  High school diploma or equivalent, required. Graduate of US Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal School or DOD accredited civilian school or equivalent, required.

     

    LENGTH OF EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years experience in explosives ordnance disposal or civilian UXO experience, required.

     

    CERTIFICATIONS:  Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications as required by SOC's Master Training Plan. Must be recognized by the Army corp of Engineers

     

    LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS:  Must possess and maintain a valid State of Nevada, Class C driver’s license with Hazardous Materials endorsement. Must be able to obtain and maintain a CAC card and appropriate security clearance as well as a clearance with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
