The position of TEMP Equipment Operator, with SOC LLC, A Day and Zimmermann Company, is located at the Hawthorne Army Depot, near the modest, west central Nevada, “High-desert, mountain-side”, community of Hawthorne. Hawthorne Army Depot, known as “The Largest ammunition storage facility in the world,” is centrally located near the modest community of Hawthorne, Nevada, at the base of 11,000 ft. Mt. Grant and at the south end of large and historical Walker Lake on Highway 95. We are located within a comfortable 1 to 2 hour drive of numerous communities and cities, located in Northern Nevada and Northern California, including South Lake Tahoe, Reno/Sparks, Carson City, Fernley and Sparks, all of which offer abundant opportunities and access to high quality shopping, recreation, health care, education and entertainment.

HWAD, is also located near the East Gate to Yosemite National Park, Mammoth Lakes, Heavenly and Mt. Rose ski resorts, and a comfortable 4 -5 hour drive North West of Las Vegas , NV. This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement.


  • Builds and maintains roads and parking lot surfaces. Breaks and clears ground for buildings or construction work. Cuts, fills, and grades surfaces. Compacts soils to exact specifications. Lays oil to engineering specifications for roads and parking areas. Shoulders roads and prepares roadbed to exact specifications for railroad repair work.
  • Digs trenches to slope and grade for pipe and power line work. Operates equipment close to buildings, lightning rods, pipes, trees, and drop-offs.
  • Performs rough grading of earth to general contour desired in addition to fine surfacing on flat or rolling terrain. From oral or written instructions, accomplishes work assignments without direct supervision.
  • Remains alert for hazards involved in operating heavy equipment and observe safety and operating regulations. Performs other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned and may be assigned occasional duties of a higher level of difficulty than those listed above.


EDUCATION: Minimum of High School or equivalent. Certifiable technical or trade schooling in the operation of Heavy Equipment, highly desirable


LENGTH OF EXPERIENCE: Minimum four (4) years as an apprentice or three (3) years as a heavy equipment operator or three (3) years combined experience.


CERTIFICATIONS: Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications as outlined in the SOC's Master Training Plan.


LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS: Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada, Class A CDL driver’s license with tanker endorsement. Must be able to obtain CDL within four months of hire in. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
