The position of Firefighter, with SOC LLC, A Day and Zimmermann Company, is located at the Hawthorne Army Depot, near the modest, west central Nevada, “High-desert, mountain-side”, community of Hawthorne. Hawthorne Army Depot, known as “The Largest ammunition storage facility in the world,” is centrally located near the modest community of Hawthorne, Nevada, at the base of 11,000 ft. Mt. Grant and at the south end of large and historical Walker Lake on Highway 95. We are located within a comfortable 1 to 2 hour drive of numerous communities and cities, located in Northern Nevada and Northern California, including South Lake Tahoe, Reno/Sparks, Carson City, Fernley and Sparks, all of which offer abundant opportunities and access to high quality shopping, recreation, health care, education and entertainment.

HWAD, is also located near the East Gate to Yosemite National Park, Mammoth Lakes, Heavenly and Mt. Rose ski resorts, and a comfortable 4 -5 hour drive North West of Las Vegas , NV. This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement.


  • Performs inspections, testing, cleaning, servicing, and repair of equipment such as fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems self contained breathing apparatus, and all other fire related equipment and tools. Conducts periodic inspections and flow tests on hydrants. Services fire hydrants in assigned area. Performs fire prevention tasks, conducts fire drills, prefire planning, and building inspections, and other life safety duties.
  • Participates in practice drills, live demonstrations, classroom study, lectures, and video presentations using all necessary protective equipment. Receives instruction and practices ventilation procedures, forcible entry, salvage practices, general rescue practices, knot tying, and other subjects pertinent to fire prevention, firefighting operations, hazmat procedures, and EMS practices and protocals.
  • Conducts routine daily fire station houskeeping, maintnenance, apparatus pre-trip inspections and equipment maintenance.
  • Performs all firefighting/ EMT duties for medical emergencies including but not limited to: patient care, technical rescue, fire ground operations, forcible entry and mop up as necessary. Stands fire watches during hazardous operations such as welding.


EDUCATION: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent, required. Degree in Fire Science highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE:  Min of one (1) year of experience, preffered.

CERTIFICTIONS: Nevada EMT Basic or National Registry or higher, Applicants MUST be IFSAC, ProBoard, DoD Firefighter I, or State of Nevada Firefighter certified at a minimum.

LICENSES/REGISTRATION:Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada, Class C license with an "F" endorsement. Must be able to obtain a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF). Must be able to obtain the appropriate level of government security clearance.

OTHER: Must be able to perform work duties, routinely, in a safe and effective manner, remaining alert and aware of potential work/safety hazards at all time, and especially alert while performing safety sensitive duties.
