 This position is for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for the Hawthorne Army Depot located in Hawthorne Nevada. Current SOC collective bargaining unit employees will be considered first.

Rate of Pay: 80% $20.82

                  90% $23.42

                 100% $26.02

                 110% $28.62



  • Trouble shoot, repair, or replace injection valves, cylinder heads, and, gaskets. Repair clutches, transmission systems, differentials, air compressors, pumps, filter units, starting engines, generators, governors, hydraulic systems, air systems, heating and cooling systems, steering systems, electrical systems, and associated components.
  • Operate various material handling equipment as well as hoists, dollies, jacks, and other carrying devices for handling heavy objects.
  • Research parts, tools and other equipment using the internet, service manuals, parts catalogs, and other resources.
  • Minor fabrication including stick and wire feed welding as needed. Steam clean equipment and other parts as needed. Utilization of cutting torches.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical systems. Complete Preventative Maintenance orders in a timely manner. Ensure housekeeping procedures are followed.
  • Uphold company values (Safety, Diversity, Integrity and Success).   Perform other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned. May be assigned occasional duties of a higher level of difficulty than those listed above. Maintain high ethical standards, overall values of the business, and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct to include cooperating during Company investigations; Responsible for reporting potential known safety or environmental concerns to the appropriate dept. or personnel.



EDUCATION: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Certifiable technical or trade school education highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years as a heavy equipment mechanic or related field.

CERTIFICATIONS: Must be able to obtain and maintain all training certifications in accordance with SOC's Master Training Plan. Trade certifications desired.

LICENSES AND REGISTRATION:Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada driver’s license.Must also be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance.

OTHER: Must be able to perform work duties, routinely, in a safe and effective manner, remaining alert and aware of potential work/safety hazards at all time, and especially alert while performing safety sensitive duties.
