The position of Keyroom/Locksmith, with SOC LLC, A Day and Zimmermann Company, is located at the Hawthorne Army Depot, near the modest, west central Nevada, “High-desert, mountain-side”, community of Hawthorne. Hawthorne Army Depot, known as “The Largest ammunition storage facility in the world,” is centrally located near the modest community of Hawthorne, Nevada, at the base of 11,000 ft. Mt. Grant and at the south end of large and historical Walker Lake on Highway 95. We are located within a comfortable 1 to 2 hour drive of numerous communities and cities, located in Northern Nevada and Northern California, including South Lake Tahoe, Reno/Sparks, Carson City, Fernley and Sparks, all of which offer abundant opportunities and access to high quality shopping, recreation, health care, education and entertainment.

HWAD, is also located near the East Gate to Yosemite National Park, Mammoth Lakes, Heavenly and Mt. Rose ski resorts, and a comfortable 4 -5 hour drive North West of Las Vegas , NV. For our outdoor enthusiasts, there are abundant opportunities nearby for hiking, biking, fishing, camping, ATV/UTV and other sports.

This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement.


Key responsibilities to include but are not limited to:

  • Develops and maintains accurate records of locks and keys to include keyboards and lock locations. Maintains inventory of all locks and keys, records of locks and keys issued, and duplicate keys identified to each lock location using the Check it Out key inventory program. Maintains adequate supply of parts and materials insure that correct keys are issued and returned at the end of the duty day. Visually check returned keys for damage. Perform daily key inventory to ascertain correct accountability of keys. Maintains strict accountability of all keys assigned to the security key room.
  • Understands, interprets and utilizes AR 190-11 and AR 190-13, Physical Security Requirements,categorization chart for AA & E and other munitions, and ICIDS alarm system.
  • Performs Locksmith duties to include cutting, drilling, fitting, aligning, and picking of various types of locks, Installs, maintains, and performs combination changes on all combination type locks.
  • Performs preventive maintenance duties as assigned to include, repair locks by straightening, aligning, filing, parts replacement, and refinishing.



Education: Minnimum High school education or equivalent required. Certifiable technical or trade school Locksmith training highly desirable


Length of Experience: Minimum of two (2) years direct Locksmith and Keyroom experience or related experience.


Certifications: Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card. Must obtain a Private Investigators Licensing Board Clearance prior to employment-reimbursable within 30 days of employment.


Licenses/Registrations: Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State drivers license unless physically unqualified to obtain such a license.Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.


Other: Must be able to perform work duties, routinely, in a safe and effective manner, remaining alert and aware of potential work/safety hazards at all time, and especially alert while performing safety sensitive duties.
